In today’s rapidly changing business climate coaching is an essential management skill. Managers need to use a variety of coaching skills and approaches to work effectively with individuals and teams to deliver business results.
This course is about extending the range of tools we use to develop the performance of individuals as well as gaining an understanding of what approach to use and when to use it.
The course identifies the differences between training, mentoring and coaching and provides practical tools to enable delegates to inspire, motivate and develop individuals and teams.

Course outline
- Explore the performance management cycle and understand how this fits with the theory of situational leadership
- Recognise how to use coaching as a means to manage performance
- Discuss the role of the coach, coaching definitions and sound coaching principles
- Demonstrate an understanding of how adults learn and be able to identify the four different learning styles in others
- Understand the theory and importance of the ‘Johari Window’ when providing feedback
- Practice giving feedback through questioning
- Explore the differing challenges posed when managing either poor or excellent performers
- Develop an understanding of the effective use of ‘high quality questioning’ & listening skills
- Practice using the GROW model to coach individuals
- Have spent time conducting coaching practice and support with other delegates
- Consider how to develop the right coach/coachee relationship
- Explore effective monitoring & evaluation approaches
- Produce an action plan of how to transfer the learning back into the workplace
